First Impressions of Holden's Maturity

(Page 13) "Partly because I have a lousy vocabulary and partly because I act quite young for my age sometimes. I was sixteen then, I'm seventeen now, and some times I act like I'm about thirteen." This quote from chapter two of Catcher In the Rye boldly states how immature Holden can be. This is shown throughout the first couple of chapters through the use of poor vocabulary, lack of work ethic and responsibility, and lack of general and self awareness. However, Holden shows moments of brief maturity, in fact even stating how immature he is, proves him to be more self aware and mature than previously expected.
